Well, I just read the blog post on equality---which I hadn't before---and it turns my original email into an obsolete comment. So I don't really see the point of posting it again!

Just for the record, on the practicality of not having a built-in notion of equality. If COM follows that as reported by Cook, then isn't it de facto "practical"?
